Fortune Teller
02:30
|
|||
I wasted my last $20 on a fortune teller.
"Your future is darkness and suffering," said the fortune teller.
I should tell her that I want my money back.
Signs and wonders aside, I was hoping for a story I could use in this life.
I found me some work in Laredo,
I was an extra in a Western.
The hero was strong, he was stupid.
He said he'd kill those indians.
I should tell them that I want my money now.
Signs and wonders aside, I was hoping for a story I could use in this life.
I was hoping for a story, praying for a story.

Long Procession
03:32
|
|||
I've been waiting around, I've been wanting to split this town.
Inundated with sound, overburdened with things to see and do.
No, I do not want to go to the show.
And I do not care to know the name
Of the man who makes your clothes
The women who makes your perfume
Or your house on the coast.
All the shit on the street and the trash beneath Kern River Bridge.
All the blood on my hands, every plane that lands on the tarmac:
Where do you suppose it's gonna go?
What if tethered to your back was all that you've disposed?
What a long procession that would be.
It is waiting right where you left it.
And the sun is still gonna rise.
And I'm not so sure we're gonna see it.
But I don't really think it needs our eyes.

Mind Inside My Body
04:47
|
|||
I've been trying to keep my mind inside my body:
It has a way of floating into the sky.
For most of my life, I've been living in the watchtower,
Trying to put down anything that passed by
In the clouds or in the shining sea,
Anywhere but where I want it to be,
What was it that I was hoping to see?
Signs and wonders always kept my eyes pointed to the sky.
I've been trying to keep my mind inside of my body:
It has a way of floating into the sky.
For most of my life, I've been living in the lighthouse,
Trying to keep my eyes on the horizon line.
In the clouds or in the shining sea,
Anywhere but where I want it to be
What was it that I was hoping to see?
Signs and wonders always kept my eyes pointed to the sky.
What's going on here on earth?
What's growing underneath my feet?
I was hoping I could find something there,
Because you told me I could find something there.
Signs and wonders always kept my eyes pointed to the sky.
